My name is Jaret Grossman. I am the developer of High Intensity Stimulation Training (H.I.S.T.), which is the philosophy that made me a 3x All-American Collegiate Wrestler.

Let's start out with this to help you understand the moving parts behind achieving a fitness model body. How do you get ripped? Well you never saw any guy who was ripped without carrying a significant amount of muscle mass and you never saw a lean girl without a "toned" body. Therefore, it starts with three principles:

Somehow 99% of the population who trains and eats 'right' are completely wrong in their approach. Magazines and internet sites have completely brainwashed you to think that what they preach is the answer to it all. I'm sure you've noticed the gimmick. You've followed the routine and you're still lifting the same dumbbells on the incline press for the same number of reps week in and week out, and you notice absolutely no difference in your body composition from month to month. You starve yourself, you don't eat carbs, you limit all your fats, you ramp up your protein and you still can't lose weight? Sound familiar?

You must understand that slowly and gradually these over the counter magazines and internet sites have followed the principle that more is better and when they're giving you more sets and more reps to do during their workouts, it seems as though they are giving you more information and better quality. More information, yes, but the information is completely misguided. The workout programs and meal plans you've been introduced to your entire life are exactly that: misguided information designed to set you up for failure if you are not pumped up with drugs to help with your ability to repair. You are natural. You are not a cheater and you are in this for longevity and to feel good and not have kidney and liver problems down the road.

Less is more when it comes to working out in terms of frequency and study after study has proven that if you work out with weights for any longer than 1 hour, your testosterone levels drop drastically and your cortisol levels spike. Work out too long in one session and go to the gym too frequently during the week, and your body is never stimulated for growth. You will actually LOSE MUSCLE MASS by training too much. When you lose muscle mass, your body burns calories at a slower rate and you look less ripped.

Get in the gym, train hard, but get the hell out of there! Do not waste your time in the gym for hours on end. That stimulation will trigger a hormone release long after your time at the gym is over. With the proper nutrition and the proper amount of sleep (at least 8 hours), you will get the body of your dreams.

You build muscle outside the gym not inside the gym and the holy grail of achieving the body of your dreams starts with creating the proper anabolic hormone through the production and release of natural growth hormone and testosterone. There are 168 hours in a week. So let's say you are an intense individual, you still only spend roughly 7 hours a week training. That's only about 4% of your week where you are spending "training" to build muscle and burn fat. What you do during the 96% of your time is FAR more important. If you're not eating the right types and the right amounts of carbs, fats, and proteins at specific and opportune times of the day, your hard earned muscle will be covered by layers of fat. Now for those who are thinking "Well then, I don't have to train at all if my diet is perfect".
